Warranties and Faults

In a recent pro-bono case, we represented a gentleman who had an alarm installed in his property by a large, national business.  Only some few months after installation, the system stopped working.

When the technician reviewed the system, they stated it had failed due to a “power surge”.  The result being that the warranty was voided, and the our client, who is a pensioner, would have to pay out of pocket to replace the system.

Our Partner, Pierre Johannessen, argued that the finding of a “power surge” was ridiculous.  No other electrical items on the property had been reset, no surge had been reported to the relevant companies, and no care was taken by the installer to ensure a basic circuit-breaker was installed.

The alarm was replaced free of charge to the client.
